Your first stop is the magnificent Bang Pa-In Palace, also known as the Summer Palace. This stunning palace complex, once the royal retreat for Thai kings, features a fascinating blend of Thai, European, and Chinese architectural styles. Your guide will provide detailed insights into the palace’s history and royal significance, allowing you to better understand its important place in Thai culture.
After touring the palace, head to Wat Yai Chai Mangkhon, one of Ayutthaya’s most famous temples. This large temple complex is renowned for its towering stupa, which is a symbol of spiritual enlightenment, and its serene Reclining Buddha statue. The peaceful atmosphere, combined with the breathtaking view of the ancient structure and surroundings, makes this an unforgettable stop. Learn about the temple’s historical role in Ayutthaya’s spiritual life, particularly its association with the restoration efforts led by King Naresuan. You’ll also have the chance to admire the rows of seated Buddha statues that line the pathways around the stupa.
Enjoy a delicious and authentic Thai lunch at a local restaurant, carefully selected for its fresh ingredients and traditional dishes. Your journey continues with a visit to Wat Mahathat, one of the most iconic temples in Ayutthaya. Famous for the Buddha head entwined in the roots of a banyan tree, this site is one of the most photographed spots in the city. Wat Mahathat was once the political and religious center of Ayutthaya, and as you explore the ruins, your guide will share its fascinating history. Learn about the important role this temple played in the spiritual life of the kingdom, and hear stories about the temple’s grandeur and its eventual decline during the Burmese invasion in 1767.
Next, explore Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, the grand royal temple that was once the most important in Ayutthaya. Known for its stunning architectural beauty, this temple is home to three majestic chedis (stupas) that housed the ashes of Ayutthaya’s kings. While the temple itself is in ruins, its grandeur still shines through, giving you a sense of the majestic royal city that once thrived here. Your guide will provide rich historical insights into the significance of the temple and the role it played in the religious and royal ceremonies of the kingdom.
Next, head to Vihara Phra Mongkhon Bophit, where you’ll see one of the largest bronze Buddha statues in Thailand. The statue is an awe-inspiring sight, standing at nearly 9 meters tall. The temple, located just behind the ruins of the royal palace, offers a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere, perfect for reflection. Your guide will explain the historical and cultural significance of this statue and the temple’s role in Ayutthaya's religious history.
Your final stop on this Ayutthaya Day Tour Explore Ancient Ruins is Wat Lokayasutharam, home to an enormous Reclining Buddha statue. Measuring an impressive 42 meters in length, the statue is a peaceful and awe-inspiring representation of the Buddha in a reclining position, symbolizing his transition into nirvana. AMAZING! This was our second tour with Khun Aey and I wouldn't of wanted it any other way. The tour was amazing we learned so much about Thai history and culture and Khun Aey always so kind to answer any questions. Our driver was also excellent, he was on time and always moments away. My husband and I recently travelled to Bangkok for five days. After a few days of visiting temples and historical sites in Bangkok we did a day trip to the Ayutthaya, a UNESCO world site and one of the previous capitals of Siam. Aey and Mr. Sulin from MAM Holidays were amazing. Aey shared her wealth of knowledge with us while Mr. Sulin ensured we travelled safely to and from our destination. Seeing the remains of the temples left after the wars with the Burmese was truly amazing. In particular, the highlights included the Reclining Buddha, the Royal Palace with its magnificent stupas and the Wat Mahathat temple grounds with the infamous Buddha head tangled in the roots of a body tree. I would definitely recommend a day trip to Ayutthaya and MAM Holiday Tours. Ask for Aey.

So happy that we booked this tour! Our Guide Khun Aey was FABULOUS! She is much organized, knowledgeable and personable... The best tour we have joined so far. I highly recommend this tour to learn more about the Ancient capital of Thailand. There were a total of 5 stops, so a lot to see, but so happy we did see what we did. The highlights were definitely Wat Mahathat, Wat Phra Sri Sanphet and Bang Pa-In Royal Palace. The lunch at Wat Phra Sri Sanphet was really good too! If you wish to learn more about Ayutthaya then this is a must do tour.

We saw all of the highlights of each of the temple ruins, but started in the morning with visiting the Royal Summer Palace complex for the royal family today. The best part was our guide, Phacharakrit Wichitwarakul whose nickame is "Kit." He unfolded the stories so that we could understand and experience very best during our Private Ayutthaya Day Tour - including how Kit took pictures of us with Instagramable settings!

Kit did an amazing job! He was great at explaining the history of each place and answering our questions.

The personal touch and individual pace of the tour There was a lot to take in but it was all nicely tailored to our interest and time constraints. The tour managed to indulge us in a wonderful lunch at a local restaurant and took care of all our entrance fees to the venues. Our tour guide Joy was well informed and kept the conversation informative and exciting. Thank you Viator. Keep up the good work

The tour itself was ok, but the guide, jackie, not so much. Throughout the day i noticed he was smelling some plastic bottle that smelled like a strong vicky vaporub. Later he told me it was a "thai medicine" for when you are tired, so basically a legal high. On the ride back he was snorting it every 30 seconds, to the point the car was smelling like it after 15min. And then he started talking a lot about bars, girls, massages, really unprofessional and disgusting!!!

Outstanding experience! Our tour guide Benjamat and our driver took us on a beautiful adventure that included the summer palace and Ayutthaya. Along the way we had lunch and the opportunity to see the ancient capital of Siam. Transportation was private and clean with cold bottles of water and flower offerings provided as you continued.

A fantastic trip with a very skilled and careful driver and Aey, the best possible guide. She was so knowledgeable and made it her mission to make me feel comfortable. I learnt so much about Thai history and even Bangkok. I really recommend to start the trip at 7 or 8 am, as the morning is the most peaceful time in Ayutthaya.
