Tour Plan

Pickup from Hotel (8:00 AM):
Your day begins with a convenient hotel pickup. Your friendly, professional tour guide will meet you at your accommodation, ready to introduce you to the best sights in Vientiane. You’ll board your private, air-conditioned vehicle, where you can relax and prepare for an exciting day of sightseeing through the heart of Laos’ capital. Enjoy a scenic drive as you make your way to your first stop.
Visit Wat Si Saket
The first highlight of your day is Wat Si Saket, one of the oldest temples in Vientiane. Built in the early 19th century, this peaceful Buddhist temple is famous for its stunning architecture and its courtyard filled with thousands of Buddha statues. As you stroll through the temple grounds, you will learn about the history of Wat Si Saket, and its role as a spiritual center for the Lao people. Take in the serene ambiance and enjoy some quiet time exploring the temple’s many rooms and cloisters.
COPE Visitor Centre
Next, you will head to the COPE Visitor Centre, a must-visit for understanding the history of Laos and its challenges during and after the Vietnam War. The center tells the powerful story of the unexploded ordnance (UXO) left behind by the war and its devastating impact on the people of Laos. You will gain insight into the ongoing efforts to clear these deadly remnants and support the victims through rehabilitation programs. The exhibits are both moving and educational, making it an important stop on your Private Vientiane City Tour.
Explore Ho Pra Keo
Afterward, your tour continues to Ho Pra Keo (Wat Ho Phakeo), a former royal temple and the original home of the Emerald Buddha. The Emerald Buddha is one of Southeast Asia’s most revered relics, and this temple holds a deep connection to Laos' religious and cultural heritage. Explore the temple's beautiful architecture, ancient sculptures, and intricate carvings. The serene ambiance of Wat Ho Phakeo invites you to reflect on the significance of Buddhism in Lao culture.
Visit Pha That Luang
Next, make your way to Pha That Luang, the golden stupa that is the most important Buddhist monument in Laos. This sacred site symbolizes Lao unity and sovereignty. The stunning golden stupa stands tall against the skyline and is surrounded by serene grounds that invite quiet reflection. The stupa's structure is rich in symbolism, representing the Buddhist cosmology. Your guide will share fascinating facts about the stupa’s history and significance, helping you understand why it is revered by Lao people as a symbol of peace and spiritual strength.
Lunch Break
Take a break from the sightseeing and enjoy a delicious traditional Lao lunch at a local restaurant. This is also a great opportunity to interact with your guide, ask questions, and learn more about local customs and cuisine.
Patuxai Monument
After lunch, you’ll visit the Patuxai Monument, also known as the "Victory Monument" or "Laos' Arc de Triomphe." The monument was built to honor the Lao soldiers who fought for independence from France and is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city. Standing tall at 49 meters, the monument is an impressive fusion of traditional Lao and French architecture. You can even climb to the top of the monument for stunning panoramic views of Vientiane, the Mekong River, and the surrounding landscapes. Your guide will explain the monument’s history and the meaning behind its intricate carvings.
Vat That Khao
Your next stop is Vat That Khao, a tranquil and lesser-known temple. It is an important religious site in Vientiane, as it houses a sacred relic of Lord Buddha. The temple is a place of worship and a retreat for those seeking spiritual peace. As you walk through the temple grounds, you'll admire the beautiful surroundings, which include a large golden stupa and peaceful gardens. Your guide will share the story of this temple's significance in Lao Buddhism.
Buddha Park
Now, venture outside the city to the surreal Buddha Park (Xieng Khuan). Located around 25 kilometers southeast of Vientiane, Buddha Park is a fascinating collection of over 200 statues of Buddha, Hindu gods, and other religious figures. The sculptures are large and eccentric, creating a captivating and somewhat whimsical atmosphere. You'll see towering statues of Buddha, Hindu deities, and mythical creatures, with each sculpture holding deep religious symbolism. Walk through the park, marvel at the statues, and learn about the artist’s unique vision. The park's eerie yet spiritual atmosphere will surely be one of the most memorable experiences of your tour.

Great tour to start off your first time adventure to Laos

Really enjoyed this tour with our guide Mr. Chansay Nanthavong. Originally thought the full day would be too much but it was perfect. Also had lower expectations for the Buddha Park based on some reviews but I found it to be most interesting and I'm glad it was included. This tour really does hit the highlights of Vientiane and it is a good introduction to Laos and its culture since it was our second day in the country. Lunch was also delicious and you could try anything and everything you wanted. Mr. Chansay has good English and a wealth of knowledge about the history as well as the current culture. The price may seem high but it was actually a good value..

Vientiane’s marvels

This private tour was well organized. The guide Chansay was competent and welcoming. The tour was flexible and could be adapted to the participant. Everything was worth seeing. The chauffeur was reliable and the bus comfortable. A walk on Friendship bridge #1 was interesting and appreciated, but could not cross to Thailand my visa being single entry only. This activity a must when visiting Vientiane!.
